The kitchens industry is in eager anticipation of the upcoming LivingKitchen, which, together with imm cologne, will open its gates from 18 to 24 January 2021. Following a year without an edition of the leading kitchen event in 2020, it will be the first internationally focused platform for the relaunch of an entire sector. “As a trendsetter and barometer of an industry, LivingKitchen is first and foremost the most important showcase for German kitchen producers. The world’s strongest and most productive kitchens industry does not turn out in greater numbers in any other location. ”For many companies in the kitchens sector, the international appeal of LivingKitchen makes it an unmissable platform on which to develop international business relationships,” explains Matthias Pollmann, Vice President Trade Fair Management at Koelnmesse GmbH. “Of course, that means that the trade fair is also vitally important to the German market,” continues Pollmann. “Digital technology can take the place of some of a trade fair’s functions, but nowhere near all. In my view, the loss of trade fairs has clear negative consequences for the performance of companies in the sector. As industry partners, we are currently putting every effort into making LivingKitchen a reality in order to give a sector the ideal business platform and thereby do what we can to help it to restart successfully,” stresses Pollmann.
No alternative to LivingKitchen for many suppliers
Following weeks and months of much continued uncertainty around the world and a period in which impending decisions have been delayed by the industry, the team at Koelnmesse is now holding crucial talks with potential exhibitors from the kitchens, electronic appliances and accessories industries in order to plan their participation in the upcoming exhibition. Matthias Pollmann is optimistic that additional, attractive new exhibitors will be announced shortly: “Given the current circumstances, we’re satisfied with the number of registrations we have at the moment. But many promising talks are still underway – with various market leaders as well as with interesting hidden champions.”
New interest in trade fairs
At present, talk of cancelled trade fairs and postponements still dominates, with digital media frequently being used for communication and as a presentation platform. However, in these times of virtual exhibition formats, telephone conferences and webinars, it has also become apparent how much people are missing personal contact – and how important it is to touch and feel products, especially when it comes to furnishings. The growing significance of trade fairs as interactive, physical platforms and networking events in the wake of the coronavirus crisis has also been recognised by representatives from the worlds of industry and retail,
including Managing Director of Nobilia, Dr. Oliver Streit: “Although we’re still only half way through the year, it’s already clear how much this extraordinary situation is challenging us in 2020 – and how much it will continue to challenge us. With this in mind, I have no option but to rejoice over every step towards a return to normal life, and I find it rather splendid that our sector has an opportunity to celebrate an international gathering in Cologne right at the start of the new year. I very much hope that, with this leading trade fair, we can secure a further milestone on our way back to our shared future. Even if we will still have to deal with the complexities of the crisis, which I fully anticipate, it’s a fantastic sign nevertheless.”
LivingKitchen is more than simply a product showcase. As is the case for the whole of imm cologne, the question of “how will we live in the future?” will be a common thread through the kitchens exhibition. In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic in particular, traditional lifestyles and ways of living will be called into question and suitable, future-orientated concepts sought after. Bernd Sanden, Director of LivingKitchen, explains: “In keeping with its claim to present an all-encompassing exposition of the world of kitchens and cooking, home living and nutrition, LivingKitchen also reflects many social developments that provide the interiors sector with fresh momentum.”
The kitchens of tomorrow will also be one of the key themes of Connect, the new trade fair focus to which the whole of the new Hall 1plus will be devoted. A prominent area will be dedicated to the Connected Kitchen themed world, which will showcase innovative appliance technology and smart applications supporting kitchen connectivity.
