Carl Warner was born in Liverpool, England, in February1963, and at the age of six moved to the home county of Kent. As an only child he spent much of his childhood drawing and creating make believe worlds in his bedroom. He excelled in art classes at school and after a foundation course at Maidstone Art College he went to London to study photography, film and television at the London College of Printing.

After finishing his degree course he went to work for several photographers in the advertising world and after a year or so set up on his own as a still life photographer. Over the past few years his work has concentrated more on the Food landscape work which is now being translated into the moving image through various TV and animation projects as well as stills. Although he still works from his studio in London, Carl moved back to the Kent countryside in 1996 where he lives with his wife and four children whose fickle eating habits have inspired his desire to make food interesting to children as well as adults in an attempt to encourage healthy eating.

As a keen writer and musician, his second passion of music is something which his animation work is now incorporating, and with this he hopes to develop the idea of a world of food into a vehicle that will help with food education, increase the aspect of nutrition and dietry awareness as well as encourage good eating habits.

Having played in many bands over the years Carl still keeps a large drum kit in his garage which he plays on everyday, to relieve the frustrations of working with vegetables that won’t behave themselves. This is something which I’m sure is quite familiar to us all.
